Trump Organization Files Trademarks for Airport Names Amid Renaming Proposals
Palm Beach International Airport renaming

The Trump family may be preparing for a major rebranding of American infrastructure. As Florida lawmakers push to rename Palm Beach International Airport, new legal filings have surfaced. A company linked to the Trump family recently filed paperwork to trademark the president’s name for airports.
Public records show that DTTM Operations filed the applications on February 13, 2026. The filings include the names “President Donald J. Trump International Airport” and “Donald J. Trump International Airport.” This move has raised questions about potential profits from public landmarks.
Protection or Profit?
A spokesperson for the Trump Organization addressed the filings this week. Kimberly Banza stated the trademarks are meant to stop “bad actors” from misusing the name. She insisted the president would not receive royalties or licensing fees from any renaming.
“The family will not receive any financial consideration whatsoever,” Banza told reporters. However, critics remain skeptical of the timing. They argue the move highlights ongoing concerns about the president’s private business interests.
An Unprecedented Legal Move
Legal experts say these filings are unlike anything seen in past administrations. Roughly a dozen former presidents have their names on various American airports. Yet, no sitting president’s private company has ever sought trademark rights for them in advance.
Trademark lawyer Josh Gerben first identified the new filings over the weekend. He noted that the move is completely unprecedented in United States history. Gerben questioned if a public airport would eventually need a license from Trump’s private firm.
Expansion of the Trump Brand
The Florida legislature is currently controlled by the GOP. They are moving quickly to honor the president near his Mar-a-Lago estate. Sources suggest the president has also eyed other major hubs for renaming.
There have been reports of interest in renaming Dulles Airport and Penn Station. The president has publicly denied these specific rumors. Still, the trademark filings suggest a broad strategy for his name on transportation hubs. Watchdogs like the Project on Government Oversight say this creates a conflict of interest. They believe a president must be bound by stricter financial laws while in office
